The next version of GP (expected release date end of August) is to make it easier for network users to install their phones. smile.gif

Currently anyone who is not directly connected to the Internet (i.e. is part of a LAN network) has to manually enter the command line argument CMDARG_NETWK to start using their GeckoPhones. (See Help-Command Line Arguments for more info.) The next version will automatically give the user the option to install the phone within a LAN if it hasn't manage to connect to the Internet within a certain time frame.

Stay tuned...

Just got emailed the new specs:
======================================
Proposed network initialisation procedure:

CURRENT MODE OF OPERATION:
After launching, geckophone sits waiting for a dial-up (RAS) connection to be established to the internet. It will just sit there saying "initialising..." until it sees a RAS connection to the internet.

Only by using CMDARG_NETWK can you get the phone to initialise from within a LAN or other private Network. This has been deemed unacceptable behaviour.

PROPOSED FIX:
The phone will still sit waiting for a RAS connection, but it will also display an icon button on the screen. When pressed the button will cause the phone to initialise in LAN mode.

NOTE:
Currently a subscribed phone will not be able to access subscribed features until it has a RAS connection, thus you won't be able to use your contact book from within a LAN. This will also be fixed in the next version.

Due date for release is:
27th Aug 2004
